April 2018 Proclaimed Cambodian-American Heritage Month and Memorial for the Cambodian Genocide. On behalf of the Cambodian American Community of Oregon, the Board, and Executive Team, we thank Oregon's leadership, Governor Kate Brown, and staff for proclaiming April 2018 a month of celebration and memorial for family and friends of our Khmer community. As we enter the Khmer New Year this week, we as a community must never forget the sacrifices. Happy New Year!      

Cambodian Heritage Month Proclaimed in City of Beaverton

On behalf CACO and the Board of Direcotrs, we thanks Mayor Denny Doyle of the City of Beaverton for the Proclamation declaring April Cambodian-American Heritage Month. Beaverton is one of the largest cities in Oregon, and home to many Cambodian-Americans. Leadership is important, and we thank you Mayor Doyle for standing with our communities. In loving memory of Van Mealy Touch 1950-2018

This past week, the Cambodian American community lost one of its founding members, Mr. Van Mealy Touch. Mr. Touch was a survivor of the Killing Fields. He was known for culinary skills and business in French Continental Cuisine and for authoring books on Cambodian history and culture. Mr. Touch is survived by his wife, Ms. Sivheng Ung, a dedicated and resilient CACO Board Member; and son, Mr. David Touch. In loving memory of Van Mealy Touch 1950 – 2018.

Immigration legal services can be hard to access and difficult to find in time of need. In order to inform the community, we would like to remind folks that it is important to seek out qualified Immigration Attorneys for any questions regarding legal concerns. 2018 CACO Khmer Student High School Scholarship

In the upcoming months, High School Seniors will be getting ready to find their paths into the world. Whatever path they choose, we applaud them and support them as a community. For those who plan to go forward with their education - whether it be for a four-year, two-year degree, or certification, this year CACO will offer a scholarship by way of a $500.00 one-time award to those who have demonstrated a commitment to the Cambodian-American community in the United States and come from Cambodian heritage.
